Workshop 2 Results:
Developing the Critical Success Factors
- 6 March 2002

Provide Robust Networking

Critical Success Factors

  • We will consider networking as important as any utility that will be centrally administered, managed and monitored from the WAN to the wallplate.
  • We will be proactive in network management by developing performance measures to objectively and adequately measure network robustness and unintended outages.
  • We will implement a standards based network.
  • We will eliminate single points of failure by utilizing redundancy.
  • We will analyze the University’s structure to determine the correct personnel configuration to accomplish these critical success factors.

Promote Institution-Wide Privacy and Security

Critical Success Factors

  • We will develop policies that clearly define the goals and objectives of privacy and security for the University.
  • We will determine, develop and implement required user education and training.
  • We will analyze the University’s structure to determine the correct personnel configuration to accomplish these critical success factors.
  • We will perform a risk assessment and monitor the technology infrastructure to guard against intentional and unintentional privacy and security breaches.

World Class IT Infrastructure

Critical Success Factors

  • We will develop life cycle funding for all IT infrastructure from the WAN to the customer.
  • We will institute development and support standards.
  • We will employ exceptional leadership to enhance coordination and communication.
  • We will publicize our strengths and accomplishments through presently untapped sources.

Develop Self-Service Applications

Critical Success Factors

  • We will research and prioritize possible applications for development.
  • We will enhance the application development process by requiring and incorporating more user involvement and feedback in the application design phase.
  • We will solicit input for application enhancements and new applications on a periodic basis from the University community.  We will review, then prioritize these requests based on fair standards.
  • We will reengineer existing business practices to empower university constituents through on line applications.
  • We will institute a periodic review process for current applications in order to determine possible enhancements and improvements.

Next time we will cover the remaining initiatives.
